2012 Film Festival Success

Over 100 people attended the 2nd Annual High School Film Festival this year. Eight original short films were shown. Two films made during Salinas Public Library's Teen Filmmaking Workshops were featured.
The judges determined three cash award winning films. First place went to Graciela Belmontes for "Callous." Second place was given to Marissa Martinez for "The Mute" and "Operation Forced Entry" by Aaron Shi and Eric Hinwood took third.
I was thrilled to again co-produce this event with Salinas Performing Arts Director, Michael Roddy. It is truly exciting to provide Salinas teen filmmakers with an event that recognizes their creativity and passion. Each year the films just keep getting better. I'm already looking forward to next year's festival!

Salinas Public Library is proud to sponsor the 2nd annual film festival for high school students in Salinas. The library is offering students full access to the Digital Arts Lab facility located at the John Steinbeck Library. The lab has iMovie and Final Cut video editing software. Video editing classes are available weekly at 10:30am on Saturdays.
The High School Film Festival is being promoted at the Salinas high schools and at each library location. We again look forward to supporting the creativity of Salinas high school students and, of course, seeing the results on the big screen!
Winter Filmmaking Workshop

Does this design look familiar?
Yes, I used the same flyer template as the Fall 2011 Teen Filmmaking Workshop. It's all about efficiency!
Teens are again invited to join us for FREE filmmaking workshop. The workshop will be held on Saturdays at the John Steinbeck Library starting February 25th!
Participants will learn storyboarding, script writing, shooting techniques and video editing skills. I hope the film project for the winter workshop will be completed in time to be entered into the High School Film Festival, held on April 13, 2012.
